Endangered (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in dry grassland, heathland and dry sandy areas, with a disjunct distribution in three locations: at Woolmer Forest in Hampshire, along the north-western edge of the Cairngorms at Rothiemurchus in north-east Scotland, and in the Breckland district of Norfolk. The population in Hampshire is centred on Woolmer Forest where the moth has been recorded sparingly for over 100 years. A single record from the New Forest in 1968 is the only record from south Hampshire; also recorded from Selborne in 1993. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 20-23 mm. Similar to
D. albipunctella, which see for differences. Larva feeds on Yarrow, living between leaves spun together with silk.
