Local in birch woodland and on heathland in England, Wales and the Highlands of Scotland. Recorded from several localities in south and north Hampshire, but uncommon and local. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 7-9 mm. Imago does come readily to light, and more likely to be recorded in the larval stage, when mines are relatively easy to find where they are present. Larva mines leaves of Birch, over-wintering as a pupa in a cocoon.
