Naturalised in warehouses, granaries and mills, through accidental introduction in grain, throughout much of southern England, with records north to Yorkshire. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 11-18 mm. Can be separated from H. insectella only be dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on dried goods, cereals, grain, rice, nuts and seeds.
