Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species). A poorly-known species in the British Isles, where known from the Cambridgeshire fens in the 1850s and later from Huntingdonshire, but last recorded in 1973 and 1975, further east, in Norfolk and Suffolk. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 12-20 mm. Larva feeds on dead animals, owl pellets, animal hides, detritus in bird nests and similar.
