Nationally scarce (Nb) in hedgerows and scrubland in southern England, predominantly coastal. In VC11 recorded in 1973 from Christchurch, Dorset in 1973 1999 from Roydon Wood and on the Isle of Wight near Ventnor in 1975, where P J Johnson whilst visiting on holiday from Cambridge found 'mines very common on Blackthorn on south-facing side of hedge close to sea' (Ent Rec J Var 88:272): mines were found in the Christchurch area again in 2013. Not recorded again on the island until a report of vacated mines in Freshwater in 2017 (confirmation of this report would be useful). Wingspan male 3.2-4.9 mm, female 3.4-5.0 mm. Similar to
E. angulifasciella, but smaller, with a fuscous collar. Larva mines leaves of Blackthorn.
