Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) on chalk downland in south-eastern England. In Hampshire recorded only from a narrow band between Leckford and St Catherine's Hill. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 3.5-4.5 mm. Adults difficult to distinguish from other Stigmella species, and more frequently recorded in the larval stage, when mines are relatively easy to find where they are present. Larva mines leaves of Dropwort, over-wintering as a pupa.
