Status insufficiently known (thought likely to be a future Red Data Book species) in parts of Scotland, where it was only discovered in 1990. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 5.5-6.5 mm. Imago similar to that of several other Stigmella species and more frequently recorded in the larval stage, when mines are relatively easy to find where they are present. Larva mines leaves of Water Avens.
