Vulnerable (proposed as a future Red Data Book species), occurring on woodland edges and limestone downland in parts of Dorset and on the Burren. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 5-6 mm. Larva mines leaves of Bramble. The mine is usually browner than that of
S. aurella and its edges are more conspicuously tinged purplish crimson (MBGBI Vol 1).
